The new models really capture the feel of the tech-guard end of the skitarii spectrum, in my mind. They're very different from the skitarii found in Titanicus (who were almost feral - with tattoos, totems, and so on, and were the guys I was emulating with my ork-based conversions), but they really match up to the guys from Dark Apostle and lots of other sources. And match well to lots of fan-made converted Skitarii.

And, of course, the crazy chicken-rider Dunestrikers are absolutely amazing. I'm just blown away by them. Their general look is mad, their details tie-in beautifully with the Knights, and their rules look very fun. I can't wait!

I'm a bit less keen on the stalk-tank, but maybe my mind will be changed by better pictures.

And the idea that this is just the beginning, that Codex: Skitarii might be followed by further codices and eventually a full AdMech codex (possibly including the Knights as well)? That's very exciting!

He's taking a while, it's a massive task. So much green stuff... But still, I love the feeling that he's giving off now. He's basically a huge mouth on legs, reminds me of the medieval travellers tales of people with their heads in their torsos. I think that he travels across the battlefield eating everything he can, constantly growing, and vomitting out the indigestibles via his mouth-cannon-arm. That seems nice and Nurgly!

<img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8670/15665675863_08f847effd_d.jpg"" />

There's still a lot of greenstuff work to be done, filling the gap up the side between the knight carapace/belly plate and the main body of the knight. I've put in some cut-up bits of the Glottkin to help with detailing, but there's lots of work to do.

<img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7502/16284714552_35d650f893_d.jpg"" />

I realised after finishing the front that I'd used some of the horns that were meant to come out of his back. So his back is not totally standard construction - the long tentacle is actually meant to come out of his arm/mouth.

<img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8647/16099411929_8eb34f01e5_d.jpg"" />

Again, lots of work to be done on the right-hand side filling the gaps. That's the big next step to do, and then on to work on the carapace.

He's going to be joined by a Tzeentch Nagash-Knight soon... And also I'm starting a new project, making the Daemon-Primarch Angron and his Bloodthirster bodyguard, the Cruor Praetoria. The Khornate stuff isn't very AdMech related, so will be going up on a new blog at http://khornate.blogspot.co.uk/Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-71031838811556754442014-11-21T19:02:00.001+00:002015-01-14T15:30:53.566+00:00Glottkin Imperial Knight conversion begins...So yes, my Daemon-Knights are getting some new friends... No army is ever complete, I guess. Here's the start of converting Ghurk of the Glottkin to an Imperial Knight.

He's going to eat a lot of greenstuff to fill all those holes! But he should end up a huge fat very Nurgley Knight.

Pictured alongside an Imperal Knight and one of my other Dark Mechanicus Daemon-Knights for scale / size comparison.

I probably won't do much more on this guy until the New Year, I'll be back on my Vikings & Saxons once I've had a chance to spray them at the weekend.
As the Mysteries of the Cult Mechanicus tells us, "The Omnissiah Knows All, Comprehends All" and "A Soul Can Only Be Bestowed By The Omnissiah". So what is the repository for all knowledge and souls? What contains every thought, every feeling, every comprehension? The answer is obviously: the Warp, the Empyrean, the Sea of Souls. The Warp is the Omnissiah, and so the Warp is that which should be worshipped. The Emperor was a powerful psyker, using the power of the Warp, nothing more and nothing less. And so to power our machines, to give them souls, we draw down spirits from the Empyrean. A Soul Can Only Be Bestowed By The Warp...

I've been splashing paint around furiously! I started painting these guys on Sunday 19th. With any luck, I'll get them finished tonight and can then say that I've painted 1,500 pts in a week (and can enter them into Armies on Parade). Rubbish camera phone photo I'm afraid (I've got no time to take good photos!), but just to show that they do have some paint on:

So far the stages have been:

Spray Chaos Black

Ironbelcher over pretty much everywhere

Dark grey over all fleshy bits

Drybrush white over all fleshy bits

Mephiston Red over all armour plates

Balthashar Gold over all armour plate edges & selected details

Nuln Oil over pretty much everywhere

Next the carapace armour needs to be brought back up to a brighter red, and the big glowing runes need to be done. Plus lots of touching things up, and the bases. But I'm getting there!Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-76801341235307417482014-10-21T09:06:00.000+01:002015-01-14T15:27:27.773+00:00Dark Mechanicus Daemon-Knights of the Unblinking EyeIt is the end of the 41st millennium, and the Imperium seems on the brink of collapse. Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade is pouring out of the Eye of Terror, Armaggeddon has been consumed in a terrible third war, the Tyranids are tearing through the galaxy, and mankind's defenders are stretched to their very limit. In the Eastern Fringe, the Turan Sector has declared their secession from the Imperium of Mankind, under the influence of the shadowy Thaalax Eldar. As an Imperial Crusade led by Inquisitor Lord Mergulus sweeps into the Sector from to reclaim the worlds for the Emperor, in the opposite direction the Fraktaal Warp-storm disgorges daemonic legions to feast on the rotting carcasses of the Turan worlds. Across the entire Turan Sector, Chaos cults answer the daemonic call, and rise up in an orgy of violence... The Turan Sector is caught between the vengeful Imperial forces and the destructive hoards of Chaos.

From the Knight World of Demiterra, the Knights of House Nordcote answer the call for aid from their twin world, the Forgeworld Nemusordo. They descend to the planet's surface to fight for the Imperial Omnissiah against Turan secessionists and Chaos cultists alike. Whilst beseiging the Chaos-corrupted Forge previously known as the Omnissiah's Gaze, now known as the Unblinking Eye, they encounter a truly terrible foe - Dark Mechanicus Daemon-Knights, twisted combinations of vat-grown warp-infused flesh and rune-etched desecrated metal, each towering foe unique and insane.

This is a heavily converted 1,500pts pure counts-as-Imperial-Knight army, dedicated to Chaos :)

Knight Errant dedicated to Khorne

Knight Paladin dedicated to Nurgle

Knight Paladin dedicated to Slaanesh

Knight Castigator dedicated to Tzeentch

Here's a group shot with a non-Chaos Imperial Knight for scale:

The leader of the Daemon-Knights of the Unblinking Eye is the fierce monster known to some as the Eye of Rage, to the Mechanicus of Nemusordo as Phi Tau Digamma, and to House Nordcote as the Debaser. This machine/creature is the one who most resembles an Imperial Knight, but powered by warp-craft and pulsating daemon-flesh instead of by ancient technology. It is driven by blood-lust and battle-fury, firing off blasts of super-heated warp energy as it advances and then tearing its enemies apart in close combat.

This is my Warlord, a Knight Errant. He's the Khorne-inspired badboy, so I went for a goat-legged look to evoke bloodthirsters and bloodletters. He's also got a good muscular torso (from the Soul Grinder), emphasising his physicality. His arms are from a Maulerfiend (with one hand replaced by a gun), they seemed nice and violent.

All of the knights share the same basic torso concept: the sides & engines from an Imperial Knight, a daemonic vehicle hatch at the back (to tie in with the Defiler & Forgeworld Daemon-Engines), scratch-build armour, chaotic arms and lower bodies & torso fronts decided by their God.
The precise bits used are basically driven by my bits box. I have lots of bits of chaos vehicles from over the years! My only costs in this project were meant to be 4 x Imperial Knight torso bits (the sides, the armour frame, the engines, the bases, the front plate with wires) from bits sellers. Although I did also cave and buy a Trygon kit for a Slaaneshi tail (as I wanted the torso for another project)...

Rho-0 Phi Lambda, also known as the Unstoppable Eye or to House Nordcote as the Destroyer, is a daemon-knight unvarying focus, not stopping until its currently chosen target has been utterly destroyed, smashed to pieces either by its massive gun or its fierce claw.

I knew that I wanted to have a Knight torso on the Defiler/Soul Grinder chassis, it's an obvious mix. I up-armoured the legs a bit, putting plates on the top as well as the shins. His front panel is the top of a Maulerfiend, plus lots of lovely greenstuff tentacles. He's the vaguely Nurgley one of my bunch, with his bulging belly and his greater bulk. He counts as a Paladin.

He is a bit shorter than a true Imperial Knight, but he's much bulkier. Hopefully no-one will complain too much.

The Dueller, called by some the Eye of the Moment or Pi Digamma Nu, is a swift and deadly daemon-knight, darting forwards on its sinuous snake-like lower body. Everything that this monster does is jerky and sudden, unpredictable spasms resulting in great blasts from its gun or its mighty talon-blade tearing foes apart. Whilst Rho-0 Phi Lambda is obsessively focussed, Pi Digamma Nu is always looking for new targets, new enemies to fight and to push itself to its limits.

My second Paladin, this one is deliberately as much of a contrast as possible to the Defiler-Knight. He's Slaanesh-inspired, so the Trygon/Mawlock tail was an obvious choice of lower body. The arms are Defiler legs, giving him this absolutely huge grasp that seemed quite Slaaneshi, pushing the duelling-rather-than-brawling feel. His torso is a Soul Grinder's back, I love the exposed spine and with a little modification it has a great Slaanesh style mono-breast. And the exposed spine fits quite nicely with the Trygon's rib-cage ridge.

His daemon-hatch is from a Forgeworld Khorne Blood Slaughterer. Which was de-chaosified and used as the basis for an Imperial Knight conversion, back before we had proper Imperial Knight kits. A nice circular path.

The Protean Eye, or the Deformer, is formally identified as Tau Pi Kappa. This daemon-knight is little more than a shell filled with twisted, writhing, ever-shifting tubes and tentacles made of horrifying warp-flesh. It towers above the more fixed forms of the other daemon-knights, and is capable of truely terrifying rapid movements across the battlefield, appearing where least expected and unleashing an unmatched storm of bullets. Any unfortunate beings that get close to this blashemous machine soon disappear under a writhing mass of tentacles.

My Cerastus Castigator. I wanted to highlight the number of attacks he has, both shooting and in close combat. Splitting the gun into two guns and having the close-combat attacks be from a huge nest of tentacles seemed a fun way to do that. He's meant to be vaguely Tzeentch-inspired, so he's tall like a flamer and tentacly like a horror? His weapons are obviously all from Forge/Maulerfiends, useful kit that!

The Forgeworld Cerastus chasis is ridiculously tall. I think that this guy is about right, but I'm not sure.

As you can see, his head has been swapped for a Sentinel Cockpit, to match the rest of the house:

I'm not a fan of transfers, so all decoration is 3D. A mix of purity seals, things from tank accessory sprues, and WFB shields. The heraldry of House Nordcote is a winged AdMech skull, Galfridas' personal heraldry is a crowned AdMech skull:

In Epic, Barons were armed with Power Lances rather than Chainswords. Hence this conversion:

Now on to undercoating! And painting. Not looking forward to doing all those purity seals!Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-14447579729137942532014-02-24T11:19:00.001+00:002015-01-14T15:27:47.757+00:00Plans for new knightsSo... GW are finally releasing proper Knights models. And Gods they are beautiful. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod2380151a

My House Nordcote are obviously an Adeptus Mechanicus house, that much is clear!

At the weekend, when the official models are released, I'm getting one to make into my Baron - a bigger, funkier suit. I'll be swapping the official GW head for a sentinel cockpit, to tie him in with my existing models.

Then my current Baron (aka the Decimator) will be converted into an Errant. Then add lots of purity seals to all of them, so that he's not the only dude covered in them. I might also up-armour the Crusader and the Paladin. Think the Paladin needs shoulder pads, and the Crusader could do with a top on his carapace.

I'll possibly also build a Warden and a Castellan. The Warden's overlapping carapace reminds me of the Forgefiend, so that'll form the basis for that conversion. The Castellan will be similar to my Crusader, but with a Dreadnought torso not a Defiler.

Then I'll have models of all 7 knight types, which'll be nice! And led by the beautiful official GW model.Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-59578280227920939632014-02-02T16:11:00.000+00:002015-01-14T15:27:55.520+00:00My Army So FarI love the Adeptus Mechanicus! There are so many really cool converted armies of them out there, with such strong themes. Mine's not really one of them, it's more of a random collection of pieces that I've made over 5 years or so. But it's kept me entertained!
Long post this, sorry...
Next I want to add the new GW Knight Titans (if they do make them!), all the lovely Forgeworld pieces, and I have a set of Skullz models sitting around waiting to be painted. Then an armies on parade board... There's always something new to add!
All the photos are on Flickr here
The whole army:

The centre, with a variety of leaders and elites:

The right flank, with feral Skitarii converted from Orks in the front:

Some Praetorians, converted from Tyranid Warrior torsos:

Some more Praetorians, a mix of Ogres and classic ork warbike tracks:

And yet more Praetorians, again converted from Ogres:

Robots (or maybe dreadnoughts?) These are inspired by the old Space Crusade dreadnoughts, with hulls from Forgefiends (& an old Space Crusade dread), and legs from IG Sentinels:

When GW finally release their Knight Titan, I'll probably swap the head for a sentinel...Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-71421737767277354982012-05-24T10:07:00.000+01:002015-01-14T15:28:01.393+00:00Knight WardenThe Warden is my third Knight. Wardens are heavy support Knights, crewed by semi-retired veterans, which are only used in the direst of circumstances. The Epic models were very varied, but Warden 1 is probably the most famous: overlapping armour plates, stubby arms with gatling cannons, carapace mounted missile launcher.

Ever since I saw the Decimator I knew I wanted to make it into a Knight. It just looks so perfect... Here's my chance! The overlapping armour plates and general bulkiness of it compared to my other Knights made it a good Warden. Like the Blood Slaughterer, I ended up rotating the torso 180 degrees and mounting the head where the daemon-engine-hatch is meant to be. Then with a Sentinel's engine on the back and a Defiler's Havoc Launcher on the carapace we're almost there! There was also lots of removing Chaos iconography - I wouldn't approach this job without a dremel, lots of files and a pile of green stuff.

The guns came from a kid's toy, the "Kung Zhu Rhino Tank". I thought they had a good AdMech look, with hints of the Thunderfire Cannon? The arms are actually a Blood Slaughterer's arms, swapped with my Lancer who has the Decimator's arms.
3 down, 1 to go, and then on to painting! Coming up next: the anti-vehicle Crusader...Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-24559628054835174602012-05-15T10:43:00.002+01:002015-01-14T15:28:05.659+00:00Knight LancerAnd here's the second Knight. This guy is a Lancer, a fast scout Knight armed with a battlecannon and a power lance. I wanted to keep some unifying elements (sentinel head, loin-banner, colour scheme), but shake things up and make it clearly a different type of Knight. And as it's meant to be a scout I wanted it more stream-lined and lanky...

King Fluff's amazing Knights were obviously a huge inspiration, both to this whole "build a Knightly household" project and to this model in particular. He uses the Blood Slaughterer torsoes to absolutely stunning effect. I can't hope to approach his standard of painting and modelling, but I can steal his bits choice!

The torso itself is actually rotated 180 degrees from the standard Blood Slaughterer, with a whole new armour plate added to cover the wires & dead bodies (made out of half a GW paint pot!) To make it look more stream-lined than my Paladin all the armour plates were cut from roung plastruct tubing.

The legs are Defiler legs with Chaos iconography removed. Still waiting for some better feet bits to arrive from the internet (I've ordered Ork Deff Dread toe-caps), and looking at the pictures that crooked leg needs to be straightened, and they need to be rotated so they're more upright in line with the centre of gravity, to stop it toppling over backwards...

The lance is a mix of a killa kan arm and a missile I found in my bits box, the las-battlecannon is the same design as my other Knight.Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-84406509302328336122012-05-14T18:26:00.000+01:002015-01-14T15:28:10.259+00:00Knight PaladinI'm currently preparing my Adeptus Mechanicus army for Armies on Parade. And I wanted some big impressive eye-catching centrepieces - I wanted Knights!

Step 1 was to do some research (you can tell I'm a librarian in real life, right?) So I devoured the original fluff and scoured the internet to see how other people had converted their Knights, and gathered all my findings and links into the uber-post here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=248882

My plan is to make a complete feudal Knightly household - House Nordcote (named after my mother's family, using their heraldry).

In the original fluff there were 7 different types of Knights. For now I'm making 4 of the 7:

the basic Paladin, with battlecannon and chainsword

the scout Lancer, with battlecannon and power lance

the heavy Warden, with carapace-mounted missile launcher and twin gatling guns

the anti-tank Crusader, with mini-quake cannon and twin-linked lascannon.

If I get time I'll add an Errant (meltacannon & powerfist) and a Baron (individualised & fancy suit), but this current list covers a nice spread of styles. I want each type to be clearly distinct, made from very different parts (and stealing ideas from all the coolest Knight models I found on the internet!) But I also want them to share common unifying elements - sentinel-cockpit-heads, loin-cloth-banners displaying matching family heraldry and a matching half-and-half colour scheme. My first challenge was the Paladin, the basic Knight. Here's the Epic models:

I made a non-specific Knight model from a Grey Knights dreadknight at the start of this year. With a bit of work, this became my Paladin. Here it is before any changes:

To update it into a Paladin it needed to have a battlecannon and a chainsword. Later I'll also repaint it slightly, and add the loin-cloth.

After testing out a few options for the battlecannon I decided that having it fire solid shells is hugely impractical - it'd need an absolutely massive magazine! So I made it into a sort of las-battlecannon instead, firing massive bolts of energy at the enemy. Much more AdMech. The gun is made from a Tau Ion Cannon's rear end and 3 sizes of plastruct tubing.

The chainsword was another difficult choice. The giant chainswords people put on their conversions always look a bit unwieldy to me, and cutting out all those individual teeth did not sound tempting... So I went for a spare Ork Killa Kan buzz-saw instead. It's still got teeth, and is clearly different to a powerfist or lance?

Everything's magnetised so that I can change it's armament for gaming purposes, but this is what it'll have in my Armies on Parade entry.

Next step: the Lancer! This needs to be taller and lankier, to fit it's role as a fast moving scout. And it needs to be armed with a similar las-battlecannon and a cool power lance.Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-12557690830490202622012-05-14T17:50:00.000+01:002015-01-14T15:29:27.512+00:00Armies on ParadeHello, world. It's been a while!

I'm currently revamping my army, preparing for Armies on Parade. In my view a good Armies on Parade entry needs 5 things:

A cool theme

Great basic models

Big wow-factor centrepieces

Interesting details that reward closer study

An impressive board

Point 1 - let's face it, "Adeptus Mechanicus" is an awesome theme!

Point 2 - I've tried my best! I've now got a huge pile of infantry of two basic types - a heavily armoured skitarii/protector and a more combat-orientated skitarii/servitor (inspired by Titanicus).

Here are pics of the skitarii, with their old WestWind heads replaced so that they're 100% GW bits (a very boring task). Pics:

Which means I'm on to point 3, a big centrepiece!

For the AdMech there's a wealth of options available - bizarre tanks, hulking robots, ogryn-servitors, and so on. And, my favourite, Knights or Knight-Titans or whatever you want to call them. I love the old Epic Knights. Larger than a dreadnought, smaller than a warhound, they were 1-man humanoidish Imperial Mecha. And now's my chance to add them to my Adeptus Mechanicus army, hurrah!Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-40070729253122544712010-12-14T09:24:00.000+00:002014-12-16T16:17:04.522+00:00Inspiration: Asymmetrical XenoI've just found a very nice "Cult of the Dragon" AdMech army.

Made mostly by mixing Iron Brotherhood and Necron Warrior parts, it's a very dark and evil looking force. Now that I'm playing Adeptus Mechanicus, and in our campaign I've been siding with the Necrons, this seemed the perfect time...

This is a very simple little conversion, just to get him finished & on the table as soon as possible. The shoulder pads were Space Marine tank crew, the axe head was a vintage techmarine's, and the backpack is a few Cities of Death bits (to match my Techno-Magi Lord).

Rules-wise he'll be a Daemon Prince when I'm running my guys as CSMs.

Also, have a preview of my Skitarii Assault Maniple, coming soon:

Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-78808286254014894102010-06-29T15:16:00.000+01:002010-06-29T15:20:33.297+01:00Battle Report: 1,500 pts vs NecronsThis was the biggest battle I've yet played with my Adeptus Mechanicus, pulling them all together for a 1,500 pt game- once again using Codex: Space Wolves. I was playing against Deke, a GW Oxford staff member. He's got a Necron army, and for this game we were road-testing some unofficial Oxford house rules for the Necrons. The main changes were that Gauss weapons were Rending but a bit more short-ranged, Lords were WS & BS 5, and Wraiths had Power Weapons. Plus there were points increases and so on, but that gives you the basic idea!

MISSION
The game was a simple kill point one, deploying in opposite table quarters. The board was quite heavily covered in ruined urban terrain, so there was lots of cover saves but not too much blocking LoS.

ARMIES & DEPLOYMENT
The Necrons had the Deceiver (needed for fluff purposes in the campaign), a Lord w/ Res Orb, 2 big squads of Warriors, 2 x 3 Destroyers, 3 Wraiths, 3 Heavy Destroyers.

I had:
Rune Priest
2 Iron Priests (each with 2 Heavy Bolter servitors, 1 normal servitor)
10 Grey Hunters + 1 Wolf Guard (2 plasma, power fist on Wolf Guard)
10 Grey Hunters + 1 Wolf Guard (2 melta, power weapon on Wolf Guard)
2 x 5 Grey Hunters + 1 Wolf Guard in Razorbacks (each with a melta, power fist on Wolf Guard, and a heavy bolter on the tank)
3 x 6 Long Fangs (each with 1 Lascannon and a mix of Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers).

The table was pretty much split into 2 sections. My left flank was inside a ruined cathedral. It contained 2 Long Fangs, 1 Iron Priest, 1 Razorback + Grey Hunters and 1 Footslogging Grey Hunters + Rune Priest against the Deceiver, the Wraiths and both squads of Destroyers.

My right flank outside the cathedral had 1 Long Fangs, 1 Iron Priest, 1 Razorback and 1 Footsloggers vs his Lord, Heavy Destroyers and both Warrior squads.

BATTLE
The battle inside the cathedral on the left flank initially went well. My Razorback bombed forwards, providing cover to the Footsloggers & Rune Priest advancing behind. In shooting we destroyed a Destroyer squad, and managed to get a couple of wounds off the Deceiver.
But then the other Destroyers took out the Razorback, and the Deceiver ate the squad insided. Next the Deceiver got into combat with the Footsloggers & Rune Priest, and this quickly turned into a tar pit. He killed the Rune Priest before I could Force Weapon him, then slowly worked his way through the Footsloggers who couldn't do anything to hurt him in return. Eventually he killed them all, but it took all the game.
The 2 Long Fang squads and Iron Priest blew up a Destroyer, and then 1 Long Fang squad was torn to shreds by Destroyer fire combined with a Wraith attack. Ouch. In revenge the surviving Fangs & Iron Priest shot up the Wraiths. Then they were charged by the Destroyers, and that became a big static combat that went on for ages until I finally killed the buggers.

On the right flank, my Iron Priest and Long Fangs blew up the 3 Heavy Destroyers. Meanwhile the Razorback Hunters and Footslogging Hunters advanced towards the 2 squads of Warriors & Lord, and much shooting took place. The new rending Gauss weapons ate both my Grey Hunter squads very comprehensively, whilst my shooting kept being foiled by the dreaded combination of "We'll Be Back" and the Res Orb.

So at the end of the game I'd killed 2 Destroyer squads, the Wraiths and the Heavy Destroyers. He'd killed 4 Grey Hunter squads, 1 Razorback, my Rune Priest, and 1 Long Fang squad. So another defeat for the Mechanicus, but not such a bad defeat as my recent tablings- I still had some squads alive (2 Long Fangs, 2 Iron Priests)!

LESSONS LEARNT
I'd never remembered to use my smoke launchers before. They were great, must remember to use them more often.

The Necron playtest rules were possibly a little powerful. 18 pts for "We'll Be Back" plus Rending is nastier than Marines. We're not sure how to improve matters. Make Warriors 20 pts? Or make them Slow & Purposeful?

Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-11110427516305710292010-06-28T23:56:00.000+01:002014-12-16T16:33:19.499+00:00Inspiration: MrMansonI've been pondering making a Kaban Machine at some point in the future, so was crawling the internet looking to see if anyone else had made one. And I stumbled across a beautiful Dark Mechanicus army made by a chap called MrManson.

You can find it here: http://www.dicelikethunder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1839 or here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/253378.page

I love the paint job on these guys, dark with glowing firey runes. Nice! And the models are very very interesting. Clearly I'm going to have to buy some Empire Wizards at some point to make cool Techno-Magi...

The two Praetorian Ogyrns are all sorts of awesome, I'm itching to combine one of the ogres from my bits box with my Assault on Black Reach dreadnought legs now :D

Finally there's his Kaban Machine. Wow. That's a cool looking beasty, combining the body of a Defiler with the tracks of a Russ. I'm tempted to follow a very similar route. The Defiler's legs are bound to come in useful for future Knight Titan projects. I may mount it on smaller tracks though, I always pictured the Kaban Machine as being mainly about the huge torso. Possible Ork Trakk tracks could work? And I've got lots of them lying around, so it'd be a cheaper project that way!Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-75360049048171974792010-06-27T12:57:00.000+01:002011-11-01T13:26:52.638+00:00Army List: CSM 1,500 ptsThus far my Adeptus Mechanicus have been pretending to be Space Wolves, with a mix of Grey Hunters and Long Fangs. But I'm currently building a Nightbringer conversion and some Assault Skitarii- once they're done, I'd like to try out Chaos Space Marines. Here's a quick 1,500 pts list I worked out:

HQ [270 pts]

Avatar of the Machine-God: 140 pts
1 Daemon Prince w/Wings, Mark of Khorne

Techno-Magi Lord: 130 pts
1 Chaos Lord w/ Mark of Khorne, Pair of Lightning Claws

TROOPS [1031 pts]

Skitarii Assault Maniple: 289 pts
9 Khorne Berserkers w/ Skull Champion, Power Fist
Chaos Rhino w/ Dozer Blade, Daemonic Possession

Protector Maniple: 350 pts
10 Plague Marines w/ 2 Meltaguns, Plague Champion, Power Fist
Chaos Rhino w/ Dozer Blade, Daemonic Possession

Protector Maniple: 392 pts
14 Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns, Plague Champion, Power Fist

HEAVY SUPPORT [195 pts]

Servitor Support Maniple: 195 pts
7 Chaos Havocs w/ 4 Heavy Bolters, Aspiring Champion, Power Weapon

Alternatively I have the models for 5 more Berserkers, and lots more Plague Marines & Havocs, including different special & heavy weapons. I could also turn the Plague Marines into basic CSMs/Thousand Sons/Noise Marines, and the Lord is magnetic so he could be a Sorceror.

Thoughts? Ideas? What would you change? I've been playing the army thus far as a very Long Fang-centric shooty force, I'd like to try getting up close & being more dynamic.Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-11752853989143073672010-06-21T13:37:00.000+01:002011-11-01T13:27:24.828+00:00Battle Report: 1500 pts Doubles vs Chaos Space Marines (loss)So, part 2 of GW Oxford's campaign. 1,500 pts per side, in pairs (so 750pts per player). Once again the Adeptus Mechanicus were Space Wolves, paired with Uncle Rich's Deathwing. This time, we were up against the Iron Warrior Chaos Space Marines.

MISSION
The mission was simple: 1 objective in the dead centre of the board. The person with the most squads within 6" of it at game end wins.
The board had quite a lot of terrain in our deployment zones, with a big empty killing zone in the middle.

ARMIES & DEPLOYMENT
The Iron Warriors had a Lord & Berserkers in a rhino, a big group of Plague Marines in a building, a Terminator squad in reserve, 2 Vindicators and a Predator. Ouch.
As always, 750pts of Deathwing got Uncle Rich Belial, 2 x 5 terminators, 1 x 5 man tactical squad.
I went for a higher model count this week: Rune Priest, Iron Priest & Servitors, 2 x 10 Grey Hunters (2 plasma guns) and 2 x Long Fangs (mix of Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers).
Uncle Rich put both terminator squads in reserve. I put both Long Fangs up on top of buildings in the corners of our deployment zone, with good lines of sight. Rich's Tactical and my Grey Hunters were in the middle, ready to run for the centre.

BATTLE
The first terminator squad popped out next to one Vindicator and the Predator. They were shot at lots (by 1 Vindicator, 1 Predator and the Plague Marines), and only 2 of them were left alive to get into combat with the Vindicator but failed to do anything. They were shot at again. And died.
My Long Fangs destroyed the other Vindicator. "Well, Uncle Rich, I killed my Vindicator" was my refrain...
Meanwhile in the middle of the table the Berserkers and his Terminators ate both my Grey Hunters, my Rune Priest, my Iron Priest, his Tactical Squad and 1 Deathwing Terminator Squad. Ouch. He cunningly chased my broken guys off the edge of the board, never giving us a chance to regroup.
After that it was all over bar mopping up. The remaining Vindicator started pie-plating my Long Fangs, and we were tabled.

LESSONS LEARNT
At this point, I decided that basing my army purely around shooting was pretty crap and I needed some better close combat troops. And started work converting a Skitarii Assault Maniple (to use as Blood Claws or Wolf Guard).

Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-12801176849557586542010-06-16T09:56:00.000+01:002015-01-14T15:29:33.742+00:00Inspiration: Work In Progress ForumThe Work In Progress forum http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php is one of the best-kept 40k secrets on the web, an elite group of mind-blowingly cool convert-a-holics and scratch-builders.

Their Inquisition board includes plenty awesome of Adeptus Mechanicus conversions.

Some of my favourite Adeptus Mechanicus related conversions on WIP are those made by Malton Necromancer, also shown on his photobucket.

His tall skinny Grand Artificer was a clear influence on my Techno-Magi, his heavy praetorian/ogryns made from WFB Ogres are excellent, and I love all his walkers and skitarii and general craziness.

But my favourite of all the WIP Adeptus Mechanicus posts has to be this heavy dreadnought made GreyDeath (the chap who runs the forum). Mixing sentinel legs and a dreadnought torso looks so good! I really want to make some of these for my AdMech at some point- possibly I'll use this as the basis for a Knight Titan?Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-22381483462306093182010-06-15T15:25:00.000+01:002014-12-16T16:17:45.918+00:00Converting & Painting: My ArmyHere are some pictures of all my converted and painted Adeptus Mechanicus models from GW Oxford's cabinet nicely laid out on their pretty cityscape board. This is probably about 1,200 pts, possibly 1,500 pts if I put in Wolf Guard and upgraded my Rune Priest & Iron Priests. In my complete model collection I've also got an additional Protector and Protector Support squad, plus I'm working on my first Feral Skitarii squad (to be Blood Claws) and my Avatar of the Machine God (C'tan / Daemon Prince). Once the Assault squad is complete I'll be up to about 2,000 pts, hurrah!

Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-83138775171741038392010-06-14T15:25:00.000+01:002014-12-16T16:25:25.040+00:00Inspiration: OddJobI'm working on making a converted C'tan-as-Omnissiah model. Whilst searching for cool pictures of other C'tan conversions, I discovered OddJob's AdMech. And by the Omnissiah they're awesome!

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/229548.page

They're largely focussed on huge stompy robots & armoured suits, using Penitent Engine pieces heavily. Rules-wise they're (fascinatingly) Tyranids, with Techno-Magi as Zoantropes, servitors as Hormagaunts and big stompy walkers as monstrous creatures. Seriously cool, and a great colour scheme (pale slightly blue skin contrasting with the red cloth).

Beautiful & inspiring stuff!Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-43256009089845320472010-06-11T13:16:00.000+01:002010-06-16T10:18:53.069+01:00Converting & Painting: TechpriestsI couldn't really run an Adeptus Mechanicus army without some Techpriest / Techmarine / Iron Priest equivalents... So here they are! One is the classic Techmarine, the other is the excellent Imperial Guard Techpriest, and they're accompanied by converted servitors.

The servitors are made from Catachan legs & bodies, with Space Marine scout heads, mostly ork heavy weapons and (oddly) Goblin arms. Just because I had lots of Goblin bits lying around from my Imperial Guard Grot conversions, and Goblins have good straight arms.

The combat arms are from a classic NecroMunda Pitslave and the GorkaMorka ork bionics blister. Good old days!

Painting is the same scheme as the rest of my models. Note that anything power-weapony has green on it.

Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265017448691509905.post-89420835278006523492010-06-10T16:52:00.000+01:002010-06-11T09:09:13.012+01:00Battle Report: 1500 pts Doubles vs Orks (loss)GW Oxford has been having a campaign recently. Most of us have been playing in doubles, 750pts per player so 1500pts per side. I've been using my Adeptus Mechanicus as Space Wolves, paired with my old friend "Uncle Rich" and his Deathwing Terminator Army.

MISSION
Our first game was vs. Orks, deploying in opposite table quarters. Objectives in table centre and the centre of both empty quarters.

ARMIES & DEPLOYMENT
The orks had a bikeboss with biker pals, a boss in battlewagon with nobs, a trukk mob and two big footslogger mobs (1 sluggas & 1 shootas). And a bunch of dreds & kans.

Uncle Rich's 750pts of Deathwing is always much the same: Belial, 2 x 5 terminators, 1 x 5 man tactical squad. Uncle Rich started with both his terminator squads in reserve.

My 750pts of Space Wolves was Rune Priest, Iron Priest (2 Heavy Bolter servitors, 1 normal servitor), 2 x 5 Grey Hunters in Razorbacks (each with a power fist, a flamer and a heavy bolter on the tank) and 2 x Long Fangs (mix of Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers).

BATTLE
1 terminator squad popped down on the left hand objective, whilst my Razorback squads zoomed towards the right hand objective. The rest of our forces hung back and shot loads.

A trukk & battlewagon full of orks and a warboss landed on my Razorback guys, and we both destroyed each other. Meanwhile a bikeboss and bikers hit the terminators, along with mass shoota boyz. The termis took out the bikers, but were destroyed. I shot lots, but not enough and the orks cunningly used the battlewagon & trukk as walls to block my line of sight.

The game finished early (as the store was closing), before the 2nd terminator squad arrived! The shoota boyz had the left objective, slugga boyz had the right objective, and the kans had the centre objective. So not a great success for the Imperials there.

LESSONS LEARNT

I still hate orks in close combat! Also, that "using vehicles as mobile walls" tactic is dead cunning.Mitey Heroeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11784658136123442645noreply@blogger.com0
